5 MYTHS About Story That Are Totally UNTRUE:
MYTH #1: “I am a bad storyteller”
TRUTH: Storytelling is a skill that can be EASILY learned. You just need the right teacher and a simple formula. That is exactly what I have for you. I wanted to make storytelling easy for people which is exactly what I have done. Once you get the hang of doing this you can use story OVER and OVER again in your brand to create POWERFUL messages that drive engagement, build tribes and SELL!
MYTH #2 “My Story is NOT interesting enough to attract an audience”
TRUTH: Stories don’t have to consist of DRAMA…the start of a good story begins with a struggle or an unmet need you saw in the marketplace. In the “Start with Story Sessions” I am offering you, I will help you find the origin of your story as it relates to what you sell now. The hardest part for most is identifying the start. I will be doing that FOR YOU in this session. I will help you draw out what is relatable in your story.
Myth #3 “I see other people building a community, BUT I don’t think anyone will ever follow me like that…”
TRUTH: It’s pretty incredible what happens when a story bonds people together. All you need to build a community is a conversation and that conversation always starts with a shared bond or commonality. That bond can be created when someone sees themself in you or your story or the stories you share in your brand.
Myth #4 “I don’t have a place to USE my BRAND STORY…”
TRUTH: Stories can and should literally be used EVERYWHERE. They are used to say what you do and why you do it when someone asks in person. They are used on your home page and about page of your website. They are used in your email newsletters and social media posts. They are great for case studies and for testimonials. The stories of the people you serve with your brand are one of the most powerful brand tools you have in your arsenal.
Myth #5: “I don’t do anything interesting (I cringe when people ask me what I do)”
TRUTH: What you do is VERY interesting to the people you help. This is where having the right elevator pitch and key messaging strategy can transform your business. When you speak to the right people with the right message your audience will feel electrified because they KNOW you can help them. Problem is most people don’t know how to say what they do in a way that lights up their customers. We WILL solve this in our session together. Amy Selbach is an entrepreneur, brand strategist, global marketing and business consultant and mother to a toddler (her favorite role of all). She has traveled to 70 countries for both work and play, usually a combo.
She has lived and worked in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe devising marketing and communications brand strategies for both countries and companies from non-profits to Fortune 500s.
